Monument

Bali bombings

Erection date: 12/10/2006

Inscription

{The stone monument curves around a marble sphere carved all over with 202 doves reminiscent of Picasso's dove of peace line drawings, representing each of the 202 victims. On the ground surrounding this sphere are the words:}
You were robbed of life. Your spirit enriches ours.

{Inscribed into the stone wall:}
In memory of the 202 innocent people killed by an act of terrorism in Kuta on the island of Bali, Indonesia on the 12th of October 2002.
{On a stone plaque on the southern end of the monument:}
This memorial was unveiled by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on 12th October 2006.
The British citizens lost are here lovingly remembered
{Under this is a list of 28 names, each followed by their age. See Subjects Commemorated for these names.}
{On the panels either side are the lists of the other 174 people who died. See Subjects Commemorated for these names.}

Three of the non-British victims are given as "unknown" at "u" in the alphabetic list . This seems rather crass. It would have been more sensitive to finish the list with "and three unidentified people". Otherwise this is a fitting memorial.
