Archibald Mackirdy

Erection date: 19/11/1910

Inscription

Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Albany laid this memorial stone XIX . XI . MDCCCCX {19.11.1910} to commemorate the Mackirdy Room built in memory of the late Archibald Mackirdy by his wife Olive Christian Malvery.

The Mackirdy Room was created at the same time that Hoxton Hall converted from being a music hall into an Institute which accommodated the Girls’ Guild of Good Life (of which Malvery was vice president) and the Lads’ Club (of which Mackirdy had been treasurer for a considerable time).

Site: Mackirdy and Palmer (2 memorials)

N1, Wilks Place, Hoxton Hall

Both plaques are in very good condition with crisp inscription which suggests either that they have previously been indoors or that they have recently been restored. The stylised lettering is very 1910.
