Site: Albin funeral directors (1 memorial)

SE16, Culling Road

This is a very odd corner of London. It has been taken over by Albins who have a "Memorial Garden" open to the public, office hours and weekends, and extremely well maintained. It appears to us to be primarily a showroom for their wares, which, on their website are termed "remembrance opportunities". The building with the plaque is a utilitarian brick building but between the garden and the main Lower Road is this surprising piece of elegant modern architecture. By Ian Ritchie architects it's a vent and escape shaft for the Jubilee Line Extension. Their web page says it's one of a series which form "a family of sculptural objects".  From what we've seen of the others this is the gem.

The only other funeral businesses that we have are Kellaway's Funeral Service and the monumental masons Francis Chappell & Sons, who have both part-funded memorials to significant disasters.
