This plaque was fixed to the wall of the brewery Barclay, Perkins & Co. It was unveiled by Herbert Beerbohm Tree who was President of the Shakespeare Reading Society which erected the plaque. We understand that The London Illustrated News of 9 October 1909, CXXXV, 500, contains photographs of this tablet when first erected.

SE1, Park Street

Even after this plaque was erected in 1909 the arguments about where the Globe had stood continued.  A (very poorly) digitised newspaper article from 1910 presents the arguments.  The plaque erectors were vindicated in 1989 when excavations revealed a portion of the foundations in the car-park behind the plaque.
