The blue plaque above was formerly placed on the house of Thomas Telford at 24 Abingdon Street, Westminster. This property was damaged by enemy action in the Second World War, and the site is now occupied by Abingdon Street Gardens, created in 1963 - 1965. The plaque was presented to the Institution of Civil Engineers by the former Greater London Council (GLC) and unveiled in this position by HRH The Duke of Gloucester in September 1980.

The plaques are in the reception area of the Institution, where the staff kindly let us take our photographs. The blue plaque was previously at an address in Abingdon Street.
