Erection date: /9/1980
Thomas Telford (1757 - 1834) engineer, lived here.
LCC
This is the plaque originally erected in Abingdon Street. Rescued from that war-damaged site, in 1959 the LCC donated it to the Institution of Civil Engineers, which Telford had founded.
In 1980 it was unveiled by HRH The Duke of Gloucester in the Institute's reception area.
We thank Steve Roffey for his work on the history of this plaque. See also Wikipedia’s page of lost English Heritage plaques.

This memorial was moved here from its previous location.
The plaques are in the reception area of the Institution, where the staff kindly let us take our photographs. The blue plaque was previously at an address in Abingdon Street.
