Pump well at St Mary-le-Strand

Inscription

The pump well is XIX feet south from this stone and VIII from the surface. Its diameter VII and depth XXVIII feet. Re-open'd and a pump erected Anno Domini MDCCCVII.
Church Wardens: William Holmes, Thomas Harper.

{i.e. The pump well is 19 feet south from this stone and 8 feet from the surface. Its diameter 7 feet and depth 28 feet. Re-erected in 1807.}

St Mary-le-Strand's site says: "The roadway in front of Somerset House . . . Was occupied in the early seventeenth century by a windmill used to pump water."
