William Croft Fish

William Croft Fish

Churchwarden in Clerkenwell in 1845.

Fish, or his namesake, is discussed at Banking History: "as a seal engraver and gem cutter and then, in 1843, he is listed at the Finsbury Bank". Various local addresses are mentioned - all very fishy (sorry).

We are grateful to Andrew Behan for adding the following:
Fish was a member of the Zoological Society from 1826 to 1842 and was also a Steward in the Artists' Benevolent Fund.  He was 55 years old when he died, which would give his year of birth as about 1790.   Buried on 13 December 1845 at the burial ground of St Martin in the Fields church. This is now St Martin's Gardens, just of St Martin's Close, Camden. His place of abode at the time of his death was Finsbury Bank, John St Road, Clerkenwell.
