Temporary Sub Officer Kevin John Power

Temporary Sub Officer Kevin John Power

Kevin John Power was born on 29 March 1957. He was the son of John J. Power and Pauline Joan Power née Chambers (1933-2024). His birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1957 in the Willesden Registration District, Middlesex (now Greater London).

In the 1969 electoral registers his parents were shown to be living at 131 Mayo Road, Willesden.

He married Pauline J. M. Power in December 1985 in the Harrow Registration District, Greater London and they had two children: John James Power (b.1987) and Hannah Jane Power (b.1987).

He died, aged 35 years, on 30 March 1992, his death being registered in May 1993 in the Hammersmith Registration District, Greater London.

According to the Firefighters Remembered website his cause of death was through injuries sustained after being thrown from a vehicle following a road traffic collision involving his fire appliance that was on route to an incident. The location was Scrubs Lane, London, NW10. The call was a false alarm and he fell against his door when the vehicle skidded. The door was not securely fastened. However the Daily Mirror newspaper reported the following day that he died when his engine overturned as he sped to an emergency call in White City, West London and that three other firemen were also injured.

Probate records state that his address had been 273 Headstone Lane, Harrow and that when administration of his estate was granted on 26 October 1992 his estate did not exceed £125,000.

The Deceased on Line website shows that his body was buried on 6 November 1992 in the London Borough of Harrow.

He is shown as 'T/Sub. O. Kevin John Power 30.9.92 Scrubs Lane NW10' on the plaque attached to the London Fire Brigade memorial in Highgate Cemetery, Swain's Lane, London, N6.

He is also commemorated on the National Firefighters Memorial, Sermon Lane, London, EC4.
