Karl Pearson

Categories: Race Issues, Science

Pioneer statistician and eugenicist. Born 14 Albion Road, Islington. Had a long-running feud with his successor as Galton Professor of Eugenics at University College London, Roland Fisher. Died while on holiday at his cottage near Dorking.

2020: University College London announced that it would remove the Pearson name from its buildings. "Professor Arthur said: “I am delighted that the recommendation to dename the Galton Lecture Theatre, the Pearson Lecture Theatre and the Pearson Building has been ratified by Council. This is an important first step for UCL as we acknowledge and address the university’s historical links with the eugenics movement."
