Stephanie Turner

Categories: Cyclist

Stephanie was 29-years old and newly engaged. She was a physiotherapist who worked for the NHS, a tri-athlete, who ran marathons and climbed mountains. Her friends remember her as someone that lit up a room when she walked in.

She died two miles from her home in Michley Road, Tottenham, cycling to a patient appointment in Hackney. She was killed by a driver of a HGV who was on his phone at the time. From Beyond the Kerb: He was later convicted of causing death by careless driving, and, following his appeal, to the minimum sentence of 6 months suspended imprisonment and a 12 month driving ban. Every driver is in charge of a lethal weapon and sentences like this will do nothing towards ensuring that other drivers take their responsibilities seriously enough.

This lovely happy photo, showing Stephanie in front, was provided to East London Lines by Stephanie's friend, Natasha Darbar-Woodland, the other cyclist enjoying the bike ride.
