Sir William Nicholson

Categories: Art

Artist. Born William Newzam Prior Nicholson in Nottinghamshire. Worked in many fields of art: painter of still-lifes, landscapes and portraits; wood-engraver; illustrator; and designer for the theatre. Book Room Art Press writes "He always had an affinity for children and wrote several children’s books."

1893 married Mabel, sister of James Pryde with whom he set up an artistic partnership (see Pryde for more info on that). Wikipedia describes this as an elopement but since they were both, just, over 21 this seems odd. They had 4 children including Ben. Died at his home, Little Triton, Blewbury, Berkshire.
