Silver Jubilee Walkway Trust / Walk21

Categories: Tourism / Traditions

The Silver Jubilee Walkway Trust was established in 1977.  They became the Jubilee Walkway Trust around 2002 to stay relevant to further Jubilees. After the Diamond Jubilee in 2012 the Trust was wound up and its assets transferred to The Outdoor Trust. This new charity was established, as the new body to take the concept to other parts of the Commonwealth with the blessing of HM The Queen. The Outdoor Trust changed its name to The Commonwealth Walkway Trust in 2018.

Following the death of The Queen this Trust was also wound up at the end of January 2023 and the assets transferred to Walk21 Foundation. Walk21 is an international charity supporting walking projects all over the world based in the UK. Walk21 has agreed to keep oversight of the 100 routes around the Commonwealth that the previous Trust’s have developed and respond to any issues as they arise.

This summary was provided to Lionel Wright in 2023 by Jim Walker, the CEO of Walk21. Lionel shared it with us.

Guy, Earl of Warwick

We were disappointed to find that Wikipedia considers Guy to be "a legendary English hero". Or he may be the very real Richard Neville, the king-making earl of Warwick.
