Rifleman Robert Henry Charles Dixon. Born 13th October 1889 in Walworth, London, the son of Robert and Annie Dixon. His father was a Publican and later became a House Painter. He was baptised on the 10th November 1889 at St. Stephens Church, Walworth and the family were living at 147 Westmoreland Road, Walworth. By April 1891 the family had moved to 10 Bentinck Street, Westminster, and in March 1901 they were living at 45 Hampden Street, Paddington. In November 1908 he was appointed as an Assistant Postman in north west London and in November 1910 he was promoted to Postman in London’s Western District Office. In April 1911 the family were living at 6 Norfolk Crescent, Hyde Park, London. He joined the 1st/9th Battalion, City of London Regiment, (Queen Victoria’s Rifles), service number 4472. He died of wounds on the 7th October 1916, aged 27 years and is buried in Grave I.N.16. at Grove Town Cemetery, Meaulte, Somme, France. Probate was granted to his mother. Effects £149 19s.1d. He was posthumously awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
