Olive Katherine Lloyd-Baker

Olive Katherine Lloyd-Baker

From Cotswoldsaonb: "Olive Lloyd-Baker was born ... the middle of three daughters of Michael Granville Lloyd-Baker, eldest son and heir to the Estate. There are glimpses of her strong character in the diaries of her uncle Arthur Lloyd-Baker, who obviously had great fondness for his three nieces. She took instantly to his Christmas present to her in 1903 of a wooden rocking horse, had high spirits for "Uncle Arthur" at the age of two, and as a teenager was intellectually well developed and good at conversation. Olive's father was killed in action with the Gloucestershire Yeomanry in Sinai in May 1916. With her uncle away in Flanders serving in the Oxon & Bucks Light Infantry, she was brought up by her grandfather Granville (who died in 1924) to manage the affairs of the estate. This she did for some fifty years from coming into her inheritance at the age of 22 up to the time of her death as the result of a stroke at the age of 72 ..."  this article contains much more information about "Miss Olive" and her full life.

Suffered from deafness throughout her life.  At the family home, Hardwick Court, she built up a collection of agricultural bygones, such as farm waggons and carts.

Andrew Behan adds: Not much to add to the entry about Olive Katherine Lloyd-Baker apart from the fact that her date of death is shown on probate records as 31 May 1975. These records show that when probate was originally granted on 10 March 1976 her estate totalled £1,009,545. However, exactly one year later on 10 March 1977 it was amended to exclude certain lands and her estate was then given as £142,650.
