Nicholas Stradling John was born on 8 November 1968, the eldest of the three sons of David S. John and Janice M. John née Coombs. His birth was registered in the 4th quarter of 1968 in the Cardiff registration district, Glamorganshire, Wales. His two siblings were Nigel Stradling John and David Peter S. John whose births were both registered in the 3rd quarter of 1970 in the Cardiff registration district.

Electoral registers in 2004 show him listed at 13 Bryn Ilan, Glyntaff, Pontypridd, CF37 4BA and from 2005 to 2008 at 33 Heol Y Parc, Efail Isaf, Pontypridd, CF38 1AN.

His obituary confirms that he died, aged 48 years, on 27 July 2017 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales. He was survived by his two daughter Kelly and Amelia and his grand-daughter, Amelie, together with his parents and brothers. His funeral service was held at Glyn Taff crematorium, Pontypridd on 15 August 2017.

He is shown as Nick Stradlyn John on the Catrin Glyndwr sculpture in St Swithin's Church Gardens, Salter's Hall Court, London, EC4.
