Was initially an organist, at St. James' Church, Piccadilly. Married the heiress Gloria Vanderbilt (amongst others), had an affair with Greta Garbo. Made the film Fantasia with Walt Disney in 1940. Died at home in Nether Wallop, Hampshire.
