Father of Charles Dickens, was imprisoned in Marshalsea for debt from February to March (or May, according to Wikipedia) 1824. His wife Elizabeth and 4 youngest children joined him. It was only the death of his mother, and the subsequent inheritance that effected their release. He is said to be the model for his son's Mr Micawber in Great Expectations.
