41st Premier of the Australian State of Victoria 1982 - 90.  Not to be confused with his father of the same name who was the 34th Premier in the 1950s.

He suffered a severe stroke on 10 December 2019 and died, aged 88 years, on 23 December 2019 in the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He was buried in Plot E, Grave 4089, in the Preston General Cemetery, 900 Plenty Rd, Bundoora VIC 3083, Australia.
