Awarded the VC for his heroism on 8-21 January 1916, age 31, while serving in the Indian Medical Service, Indian Army. "Over a two week period, although shot in both arms and in the side he remained continually at his post displaying the utmost bravery. (Mesopotamia)". Freemason at: №2121, Triune Brotherhood Lodge.
