Inez Leslie

School crossing patrol officer. We have contacted Grasmere Primary School to see if they have any further information about this obviously well-thought-of person, but unfortunately they have not responded, however, our colleague, Andrew Behan, has carried out some research on Ancestry.com and found a JustGving page, which together give:

Leslie was born on 18 December 1946 in Jamaica, the daughter of Simpson and Daisylyn Mathilda Leslie née Smith, and came to the UK in 1968. In 1979 she was living 91b Albion Road, N16, and was employed as a Metropolitan Police School Crossing Patrol Officer at Grasmere Primary School, 92 Albion Road. She died, aged 44, on 5 July 1991, survived by her husband and daughter, Grace Graham.

'Crossing Patrol Officers' have always been affectionately known as lollipop ladies and men. They first appeared in London in 1953 to relieve the police of the duty of supervising children across busy roads.

Note: the date of birth on the JustGiving page is 1/1/1947 but the plaque and the Registration of Death both give the 1946 date.
