India House

Countries: India

An informal Indian nationalist organisation founded in 1905 by Shyamji Krishna Varma at 65 Cromwell Avenue. The term is also used to describe the building in Highgate where many of the student adherents lived and from where the organisation operated. Opened by Henry Hyndman. It was here that Varma founded the Indian Home Rule Society in 1905. In October 1906 Gandhi visited India House and met Savarkar.
