Commemorated on a memorial as having died in WW1.

Helen Knibb

Nurse working at Lewisham Hospital died in WW1, while working there.

Western Front Association gives: "Helen Knibb was born in Kettering in the autumn of 1885 and died in Lewisham aged 33 in the spring of 1919."

Our colleague, Andrew Behan, has undertaken further research on this person:

Nurse Helen Knibb was the eldest of the three daughters of Edwin Knibb (1851-1919). Her birth was registered in the 4th quarter of 1885 in the Kettering registration district. Her mother was Elizabeth Knibb née Pacey (1856-1885) who died shortly after having given birth to Helen Knibb and was buried on 7 November 1885. The burial register shows the family were living at 14 Wood Street, Kettering.

Her father was remarried in the 1st quarter of 1888 in the Kettering registration district to a Ruth Clipston (1856-1925).

In the 1891 census she is shown as a scholar living at 105 King Street, Kettering, Northamptonshire, with her father and stepmother along with her half sister Elizabeth Knibb (1891-1977). Her father was described as a railway signalman. She was still at this address at the time of the 1901 census where her occupation was recorded as a 'finisher (clothing)' and was living there with her father, stepmother and two half sisters, Elizabeth Knibb and Kate Knibb (1895-1974).

Whilst at the time of the 1911 census her family were still recorded at 105 King Street, Northampton, she was listed as a probationary nurse employed by the Kettering Workhouse & Workhouse Infirmary, 77 London Road, Kettering. Having passed her examinations at the Central Midwives Board she was enrolled on The Midwife Roll on 7 August 1913. Their 1915 register shows her address to have been The Infirmary, London Road, Kettering.

She served at the Lewisham Military Hospital, and died, aged 33 years. Her death was registered in the 1st quarter of 1919 in the Lewisham registration district and she was buried on 29 January 1919 in Northamptonshire.
