Londonist have a good post about London’s Lost Yiddish Theatre with an item on this theatre, the first purpose-built Yiddish theatre in London, founded by the actor Jacob Adler. A-misleadingly-named-website describes the theatre and details a particular tragedy that took place there in 1887, a stampede which left 17 dead. The image, published in The Illustrated London News, 29 January 1887, shows the theatre after that event.

Following this the audience stayed away and the theatre closed soon after. Adler and his group of actors moved to New York.
