Frederick George Scheib was born on 4 June 1850, the younger son of Philip Scheib (c.1821 in Germany-1882) and Mary Scheib née Hunter (c.1821-1911). His birth was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1850 in the Clerkenwell Registration District, Middlesex (now Greater London). On 8 September 1850 he was baptised in St James's Church, Clerkenwell Green, where in the baptismal register his date of birth was confirmed, that his family were shown as living at 4 Myddelton Street, Clerkenwell and that his father was described as a baker. His elder brother was Henry Philip Scheib (1848-1914).
In the 1861 census he is shown as aged 10 years and a scholar, still residing at 4 Myddelton Street, Clerkenwell, with his parents and his elder brother who was also listed as a scholar, together with a female house servant and two male bakers. His father continued to be described as a baker.
He was still recorded as living at 4 Myddelton Street when the 1871 census was undertaken. He was described as aged 20 years and a baker, residing there with his parents, his brother - who was a goldsmith, three male bakers and a female general domestic servant. His father was still listed as a baker.
When the 1881 census was undertaken he was shown as aged 29 years and a baker, still occupying 4 Myddelton Street with his parents, together with a female domestic general servant and two male bakers. His father was still a baker.
On 11 December 1886 he was initiated as a freemason in the Clerkenwell Lodge No.1964 that met at the Holborn Viaduct Hotel, Holborn, London. He resigned from this Lodge on 11 October 1890.
On 31 October 1889 he married Annie Ironside (1865-1935) in St James's Church, Clerkenwell Green, where in the marriage register he is shown as of full age, a bachelor and a gentleman, living at 55 Amwell Street, Clerkenwell, the son of Philip Scheib, a deceased baker, whilst his wife was described as of full age and spinster residing at 36 Upper Baker Street, the daughter of William Ironside, a collector. Their daughter, Marion Lily Scheib (1893-1983) was born on 5 November 1893.
The 1891 census shows him as aged 39 years and living on his own means at 55 Amwell Street, Clerkenwell, the home of his widowed mother who was also described as living on her own means. Also on the census form were his wife and their daughter together with a female domestic servant.
In the 1901 census he was shown as aged 50 years and living on his own means at 36 Claremont Square, Clerkenwell, the home of his widowed mother who was also described as living on her own means. Also on the census form were his wife and their daughter together with a female domestic servant.
His death, aged 59 years, was registered in the 4th quarter of 1909 in the Holborn Registration District, London. Probate records confirm that his address had been 36 Claremont Square, Clerkenwell and that he died on 15 December 1909. Administration of his estate, with a will, was granted on 10 January 1910 to his widow and his effects totalled £2,865-11s-3d. His body was buried on 18 December 1909 in Camden.
He is shown a 'F.G.SCHEIB' on both the East and the West plaques attached to buildings in Rosebery Square, Rosebery Avenue, London, EC1.
