Edward Acheson

Categories: Industry, Science

Countries: USA

American chemist, inventor and industrialist. Born Pennsylvania. Initially worked with Edison. Companies he founded include: Carborundum, Inc., UCar International, and Acheson Industries. In about 1881 he was in Antwerp and Milan installing electrical systems but we cannot find out what he was doing in London in 1912-15. Died New York City.

Since we've mentioned Edison here seems as good a place as any to say that at American History we learn that the first central generating station using Edison’s method was set up at Holborn Viaduct (rather than in the more expected USA) and ran 1882-4.
