Denis Bond

Denis Bond

Probably born Dorset. Sat in the House of Commons (MP for Dorchester) in two periods between 1640 and 1656. He supported the Parliamentarian cause in the English Civil War and served as president of the Council of State during the Commonwealth. Avoided serving as a Commissioner in the trial of Charles I. Buried in Westminster Abbey.

When Charles II was restored to the throne he ordered the disinterment of the bodies of Oliver Cromwell and his supporters, including Bond, and their reburial in an unmarked pit in St Margaret's churchyard, Westminster.
