David Ben-Gurion

Politician. Born David Grüen in Ptońsk, Russian Empire (modern day Poland). In Palestine in 1919 he founded a socialist party and led the Mapai (Labour) party from 1930. He participated in the St James Conference in London in 1939, which tried to solve the problem of Palestine. Became first Prime Minister of the state of Israel in 1948. Died in Tel Aviv-Yafo.
