Carlton House / Salisbury Club

The house and gardens of what is now 694a High Road E11 have had a complicated series of uses which we have not bottomed out. The house and/or either of the two buildings in the front garden and/or the building in the back garden were probably, at some time: Carlton House; a Conservative Club; the Salisbury Club (established 1881); a snooker/billiards club.

In 1904 “The house now occupied by the Salisbury Club, at the corner of Aylmer Road, was once in the occupation of Mr. Benjamin Cotton and it was afterwards occupied by Mr. {John Alfonso} Doxat.”

Sources include: Leyton History Society which is, we think the same text as Leytonstone and its History.
