Sculptor. Born Dublin to a French father and Irish mother. The family emigrated to New York when Augustus was a baby. Studied in America and Europe. Very successful as a monumental sculptor and for his numismatic work (coins). Died at his home in Cornish, New Hampshire where there is now the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site.

Valley News reports that a 6th version of the Lincoln statue is to be erected at Cornish in June 2016.
