Andrew Joseph Bailey was born on 20 April 1972 in Birmingham, West Midlands, a son of Vincent H. Bailey and Alona T. Bailey née Moncrieffe and went to live in the United States of America when he was a teenager.

He was an Advantage Security supervisor for Marsh & McLennan in the World Trade Centre, in New York, USA and it was here that he met Miosotys Fernandez who was an administrative assistant with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. They set up home in Queens, New York and had a daughter, Victoria, born in 1993.

He died, aged 29 years, on 11 September 2001, when he was working on the 93rd Floor of the North Tower, 1 World Trade Centre, Manhattan, New York. According to Find a Grave he was buried in Section CALY, Lot 44710 in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York, USA.
