Alma Cogan

Categories: Music / songs, TV & Radio

Singer. Born Alma Angela Cohen in Whitechapel. She specialized in 'novelty' songs such as 'Twenty Tiny Fingers' and 'Bell Bottom Blues'. Nicknamed the 'girl with the chuckle (or giggle or laugh) in her voice'. She toured the world extensively, but her style of music went out of favour in the early 1960s, with the advent of beat combos such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Although diagnosed with cancer, she managed to do a final tour before dying in the Middlesex Hospital, Marylebone.

See videos of her performing at AlmaCogan.
