Although shown on the memorial as Sydney Evans his name on all birth, baptismal, marriage, death and probate records was recorded as Sidney Morley Evans.
He was born on 1 September 1906 in Shoreditch, a son of William Morley Evans (1865-1934) and Emily Jane Evans née Stotesbury (b.1867).
On 30 September 1908 he was baptised at Holy Trinity Church, Hoxton. The baptismal register shows the family living at 41 Taplow Street, Hoxton and that his father was an Iron Trimmer.
The 1911 census states that he was living at 14 Shaftesbury Street, New North Road, Islington, with his parents and his five elder siblings.
He married Beatrice Mary Drake (1906-1941) in 1938 in the Shoreditch registration district and they had one son, Derrick M. Evans (1940-1941).
The 1939 England and Wales Register shows him and his wife living at 43 Poets Road, Islington and his occupation was recorded as a tailor shop manager.
He enlisted as a Gunner and was attached to 9 Res, Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery, service number 1760015.
He was at home on 19 April 1941 when he was killed, aged 34 years, together with his wife and son at 43 Poets Road during a German air raid. Their bodies were not found until later the next day and they were buried together on 26 April 1941 in Section J, Grave 23334 in the Islington and St Pancras Cemetery, 278 High Road, London, N2 9AG.
Administration of his estate was granted to his father-in-law and mother-in-law on 6 August 1941 and his effects totalled £213-11s-9d.
He is additionally commemorated on Panel 5 of the Screen Wall close to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's Cross of Sacrifice in the Islington and St Pancras Cemetery and also in the London Borough of Islington's Book of Remembrance.
