Artist. Born David Garshen Bomberg in Birmingham. His family moved to the east end of London, and he studied at the Slade School of Art, where his fellow pupils included Mark Gertler and Stanley Spencer. He was part of a group of Anglo-Jewish artists known as the 'Whitechapel Boys', and was a founder member of the London Group which included Walter Sickert, Jacob Epstein and Henri Gaudier-Brzeska. In Paris he met Picasso and Modigliani, who influenced his compositions such as 'The Mud Bath' and 'In the Hold'.
