Sir Victor Horsley

Scientist and soldier. Born Victor Alexander Haden Horsley in 2 Tor Villas, Campden Hill, Kensington. As a physician, he developed many practical neurosurgical techniques and was the first person to remove a spinal tumour by means of a laminectomy. In World War I he served as a surgeon in France and Egypt. He volunteered for field surgery in Iraq, where he died suddenly of heatstroke, complicated by intestinal infection, at the British General Hospital at Amara, near Baghdad.

Note: Trying to identify Tor Villas we believe it was either the houses in what is now Tor Gardens W8, or possibly the pair of houses immediately south-east of that road's junction with Campden Hill Road.
