Diane J. Gorvin was born in 1956 the elder child of Herbert D. Gorvin (b.1931) and Patricia A. M. Gorvin née Black (b.1936). Her birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1956 in the Bournemouth registration district, Dorset. The birth of her younger brother, Richard J. Gorvin, was registered in 2nd quarter of 1957 also in the Bournemouth registration district.

In September 2004 she married John Philip W. Bews (b.1951) in the Ross registration district, Herefordshire and they were both shown on electoral registers from 2003 to 2010 at Beech House, Parkend Road, Coalway, Coleford, GL16 7HX.
