George Bunting

From Orra: “George, an engineer by profession, was an easy-going, pipe smoking and puckish ‘mein host’.  His auburn close-cropped hair and goatee made him instantly recognizable, and his infectious chuckle and twinkling eyes endeared him to everyone.  Deb was equally as gregarious and hovered around as the proverbial hostess welcoming all into their period Canonbury villa where the I.A.C. met for its art and club business sessions.”

2018: Our colleague Andrew Behan adds: George James Bunting was born on 3 November 1910 in Ferozpore, Punjab, India, the eighth on the nine children of Thomas Edward Bunting and Louisa Bunting née Irelan. His father was at the time a Serjeant Major in the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, but during WW1 gained a commission as a Captain and Quarter Master in the regiment and finally as a Major.

He married Deborah R Friedlander in 1946 in Hampstead and the London Electoral Registers 1832-1965 and British Phone Books 1880-1984 have them listed from 1947 to 1955 at 45 Mildmay Park, London, N1, and from 1956 to 1984 at 172 Southgate Road, London, N1. He died at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, on 31 March 2000, aged 89 years, and was cremated in Islington on 10 April 2000.
