Poet and novelist. Born Robert von Ranke Graves at Red Branch House, Lauriston Road, Wimbledon. Professor of English at Cairo and Professor of Poetry at Oxford. His early poetry included 'Over the Brazier' and 'Fairies and Fusiliers' and his best known novels are 'I, Claudius' and 'Claudius the God'. He eventually settled in Majorca where he died.
