A. B. Cloutman

Philanthropist. Alfred Benjamin Cloutman (but always known as A. B.). Born Bristol.  Began work as a junior assistant at Maple & Co and rose to become Governing Director, later Life Governor, of the company.  Married Clarissa and had three sons William, Wolfred and Brett (later Sir Brett Cloutman, VC, MC, QC, KBE) who were raised as the stepsons of Alicia Mary Cloutman, in Old Hall, South Grove, Highgate (later occupied by Margaret Rutherford and Rumer Godden, in separate flats). Founder and first President of Hornsey YMCA.
