{Next to the crest of Merton Council:}
Westside House
Built early in the 18th century as the "Mansion House" of the large Warren Estate.
It was the home of Lord Lyndhurst, Lord Chancellor 1827 - 30, and of Spencer Gore, first Wimbledon tennis champion in 1877.
Site: West Side House (1 memorial)
SW19, West Side Common, 6
The plaque is placed on what appears to be the boundary wall of the house to the north, but the one in our photo matches the description much better. Checking maps we found West Side House marked in 1933, and it is indeed the house we have photographed.
