Walworth Boy Scouts Tragedy - original plaque

Inscription

In memory of Patrol Leader William Beckham aged 12, Patrol Leader Harry Gwynn aged 13,
Scouts: Albert Edward Fox aged 12, Noel Faulkner Filmer aged 14, Thompson James Filmer aged 12, Percy Baden Powell Huxford aged 12, James Skipsey aged 12 Edward Smith aged 11
of the 2nd Walworth (Dulwich Mission) troop of Baden Powell's boy scouts
and Frank Masters aged 14 of the training ship "Arethusa"
who were drowned off Leysdown on 4th of August 1912.

The plaque is actually a resin copy of the one that was attached to the original memorial for the Walworth Scouts drowned at Leysdown. The memorial and plaque were stolen in 1969 and were presumed to have been melted down. The plaque however turned up at a scrap dealer's in 2003 and was acquired by the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery.
