Plaque

(lost) The Keskidee

Erection date: 7/4/2011

Inscription

The Keskidee, 1971-1992, Britain's first arts and cultural centre for the black community established here.
London Borough of Islington

Plaque unveiled by David Lammy M.P.

Site: The Keskidee Arts Centre (1 memorial)

N1, Gifford Street, 64, Gifford Hall

From an Islington planning document: Built as a church mission hall between 1862 and 1896. Not damaged in WW2. After The Keskidee Arts Centre left in 1991 it was taken over by the Christ Apostolic Church.

It was reported on 9 March 2012 that the building had been badly damaged in a fire the night before. And 19 April 2012 a photo of it being demolished. Even though plaque and building have gone we will leave this entry here as a sad memory.
