Site: Pelham Mission Hall (2 memorials)

SE11, Lambeth Walk

Original signage: on the high central frieze: "The Pelham Mission Hall".  Modern signage: "Learning for Life at Morley"; "The Henry Moore Sculpture Studio".

This was built in 1910 as the hall for the St Marys at Lambeth church and named for F. G. Pelham who had been rector there 1884-94. Bought by Morley College in 1977 to become its sculpture department.

This lively ornate building has been allowed to deteriorate, 2022, plants are growing on it and modern additions have not been sympathetic. For example the pulpit at the left of the building has a huge outlet for a modern extractor vent at what would be head height for anyone called to preach.

Outdoor pulpits are not common. We can think of one other, at Holy Trinity Church, Marylebone Road.
