Paul Matthews

Inscription

In memory of Councillor Paul Matthews, Deputy Mayor of Islington and Vice-Chair of Leisure Services until September 1991 whose enthusiasm restored Grimaldi's grave.

Site: Grimaldi's grave (2 memorials)

N1, Rodney Street, Joseph Grimaldi Park

Londonist report that when this church was converted for office use Grimaldi's grave (the above ground part at least) was moved to this location. See also the Grimaldi keystone on the front of the church. Near to this fenced-off grave are two accessible "graves" on which you are invited to dance: one for Grimaldi and one for Charles Dibdin who employed him at Sadler's Wells.
