Plaque

Hackney Empire pavement plaque - Sir Oswald Stoll

Erection date: 25/5/1917

Inscription

Sir Oswald Stoll - theatre impresario & philanthropist

Site: Hackney Empire (4 memorials)

E8, Mare Street

The round plaque is on the wall under the main entrance canopy, high up, near the first "E" of Empire. The three brass plaques are in the pavement under the canopy. It took us a while but finally we recognised the shape of these plaques - a ticket dispensed by those old style machines in theatre and cinema box offices.

A news item on the 2017 Windsor unveiling promises "more plaques will be added to the pavements around the theatre."
