Plaque | War dead | WW1

Frederick Hobson VC

Erection date: 18/8/2017

Inscription

{Below an image of a Victoria Cross medal:}
Sergeant Frederick Hobson, Central Ontario Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force, 18th August 1917.

This plaque was unveiled on the centenary of his death.

Site: Frederick Hobson VC (1 memorial)

WC1, Argyle Walk

The little boy is helpfully pointing the plaque out to us. The wreaths, leftover from the unveiling, can be seen leaning against the wall behind.

Hobson was born in 14 Wood Street, now Midhope Street, the (cobbled, dead) end of which you can see in our photo. All the houses in this and neighbouring streets, behind the camera, were replaced with social housing mansion blocks c.1890. We thank local historian, Henry Fitzhugh, for this information.
