This plaque is beside the entrance to Newcastle Court. Ian Visits informs that name came from the new castle (or mansion) built by Buckingham. The date given on the plaque falls during the dukedom (is that the correct term?) of the 2nd duke and is the year in which York House, the Duke's house between Strand and the Thames, was sold for demolition and development. But that doesn't help one to know what the date means for this College Hill house. Could it be that the plaque has confused the two houses?
