Site: Smith Square war memorial (2 memorials)

SW1, Smith Square, St John's

Designed by Thomas Archer this church was built in 1728, one of the Queen Anne churches. The church yard was designed by Fanny Wilkinson.

Suffered a direct hit on 10 May 1941 and was gutted by the fire. It was not repaired for over 20 years, but was eventually restored and reopened in 1969 as a concert hall.

You can see the newly planted tree/bush in the foreground of our photo for the nearby Nobel House.
