Inscription

This stone was laid by His Majesty King George V on the twenty-fourth day of July MDCCCCXIII the fourth year of his majesty's reign.
Her Majesty Queen Mary being present on the occasion.

The plaques are just inside the entrance to the building.

Although the foundation stone was laid in 1913, WW1 got in the way, and the building wasn't opened until August 1918.
