Jazzie B - steel statue

Site: Garrud, Jazzie B and Keen - steel statues (3 memorials)

N4, Station Place

There are two plaques on the blue bench behind the statues:

Plaque 1:
The characters for this Portrait Bench chosen by your community celebrate Sustrans winning a nationwide vote in 2007 to create new walking and cycling routes across the UK, funded by the Big Lottery Fund. www.Sustrans.org.uk

Plaque 2:
Jazzie B (Trevor Beresford Romeo) OBE DJ, music producer, entrepreneur and founding member of Soul II Soul.

Florence Keen, 1868 - 1892, founder of North Islington Welfare Centre and School for Mothers now the Manor Garden Centre.

Edith Garrud, 1872 - 1971, suffragette and jiu-jitsu instructor. She ran a martial arts centre on Seven Sisters Road.

Find out more about these local people at... {broken web link}.

But we hunted around and found a map showing all the Sustrans Portrait Benches around the country.

2018: We've noticed that these statues are no longer in this position. We've marked them as 'lost' but surely they have just been moved somewhere nearby, or will return here soon. Please let us know if you have any information.

2019: They're back. However the bench with the plaques has not reappeared so passers-by may not know who these statues represent.
